The 2024 season will be remembered as one of the finest in the history of Vantaa Cricket Club (VCC). Competing across multiple divisions and formats—Finnish Premier League (FPL), Division 2, Division 3, and the One Day Tournament—VCC showcased resilience, teamwork, and a winning mentality that carried them to several remarkable achievements.
Finnish Premier League (FPL) Team: Best Season in Recent History
Our Premier League team had an unforgettable season, one of the best in VCC’s recent history. The team finished 2nd in the round-robin phase, displaying skill and consistency against some of the toughest opponents in Finland. Unfortunately, despite a strong showing in the league stages, VCC fell short in both qualifiers, missing out on the final. Nevertheless, the team ended the season proudly in 3rd place, a performance that sets a high bar for the coming years.
Division 2 Team: A Story of Comeback and Resilience
The Division 2 team had a rollercoaster season, marked by an extraordinary comeback. The campaign started on a difficult note, with the team losing their first five matches. However, showing immense resilience and determination, VCC turned things around in the second half of the season, winning 8 out of their next 9 games to finish 3rd in the round-robin stage. They carried this momentum into the knockout stages, winning their first qualifier but narrowly losing the second one, ending the season in 3rd place. This incredible turnaround was a testament to the team’s fighting spirit and never-give-up attitude.
Division 3 Team: Consistency and Close Contests
The Division 3 team enjoyed a solid and consistent run during the 2024 season. With a string of strong performances, they won 13 out of their 16 games, finishing 2nd in their group after the round-robin stage. The team showed great promise in the knockout rounds, winning their first qualifier, but narrowly lost the second qualifier, concluding the season in 4th place. It was a season that demonstrated the team’s competitive edge and consistency.
One Day Tournament Champions: The Crowning Glory
The highlight of VCC’s season came in the One Day Tournament, where our team truly excelled. VCC dominated the round-robin stage, winning 4 out of 5 matches, securing their place in the knockout rounds with confidence. The team carried their momentum all the way to the championship, delivering a stunning performance to claim the title. This victory was the perfect culmination of a long and hard-fought season, and it stands as a symbol of VCC’s growing stature in Finnish cricket.
A Season to Remember
In summary, the 2024 season was one filled with ups and downs, but Vantaa Cricket Club emerged stronger, prouder, and more unified. With two top-three finishes in the FPL and Division 2, a 4th place finish in Division 3, and a championship win in the One Day Tournament, VCC has every reason to celebrate.
